Try it on Tuesday - SPOOKY - Cemetery Gates

Hello Everyone!

It's time for another fantastic challenge over at Try it on Tuesday. Thank you so much to everyone who joined us for our 'Animal' challenge, there were so many fantastic critter entries, wow!

For today's challenge our theme is SPOOKY. We all love Halloween, right ladies! Here is my make.

My gates were completely Jerry-rigged using two of the tree pieces from the Impression Obsession Fence Trio set, some fancy Cuttlebug maneuvering and a lot of time with a craft knife. I gave them a rusted look using several different kinds and colours of embossing powders.

As you can see, the gate is formed and lifted off of the paper, making it 3d!

The night sky background was made with texture paste, DecoArts Crafter's Acrylics - Black, Westport Grey and Antique White and some Tim Holtz Gathered Twigs distress stain. I placed a large glitter container on the paper and smooshed the texture paste around it, to give the moon a sunken 3d appearance. Some embossing puffs make the clouds look fluffy.

The Spooky sentiment is from Inkadinkado. I heat embossed it with silver embossing powder, added Crackle Accents, rubbed Black Soot distress stains into the cracks then added a touch of Ranger Embossing Enamelware for the white speckles.

The chain is just a piece of an old necklace that I grunged up with black paint. The key is made from crafter's clay and a mold. I painted it silver, added some Crackle Accents then rubbed Black Soot distress stain into the cracks.

The flowers are made from Joy Crafts Flower 1 out of kraft paper and edged with Black Soot. The small black leaves are Cheery Lynn Branch Set and the tree is Impression Obsession Leafy Branch.

I am entering my card into the following wonderful challenges:

That's it for today. Thank you for stopping in and for all the amazing comments. I read and appreciate every single one! If you have any questions, please let me know.

    1. Thanks Brenda! Odd that you say that, it's alien to me as well. We don't have kids and 'trick or treater's' aren't allowed in the building where we live, so Halloween is just another day for us. hugs :)

  6. WOW WOW WOW WOW!!!! I am blown away by your creative mind!!! The way you created spooky sky scene and the big full moon is genius!!! My favorite detail on this card is sky, moon, spooky fence, spooky tree, spooky sign, chain and lock, spooky flowers, tiny leaves and spooky twine! I could have just typed that I loooooved entire card, but the other way was more fun :) I remember a couple months ago how you were reluctant about creating Halloween cards and look at you now!!! You sure did master that theme!! I hope that Tim Holtz invites you soon to be part of his DT cause you sure know how to create cards in "his" style :) Till your next jaw-dropping creation...Big hugs :)

  10. Hi Pamellia
Well, I don't do Halloween (goodness knows, I frighten myself every morning with that first look in the mirror lol!) but this is terrific. Its so atmospheric you can almost hear the creek of the gates. . . . . . .or was that my knees?
    Have a great day.

    1. Haha, I hear you about the creaking knees! Oddly, I don't do Halloween either. Mr J and I don't have kids and 'trick or treater's' aren't allowed in the building where we live, so Halloween isn't something we normally even think about. Thanks for the kind words! big hugs :)

  14. I have a confession to make ... I'm not a big fan of Halloween - or anything spooky. I'm a girly girl - I like pink and flowers and butterflies ... But (yes' there's a but :P) i still really like your card. The scene you created is so mystical and that padlock on the door is a perfect finishing touch. Awesome!
